  1. I have been hauling horses since I was old enough to drive.  Which is about 15 years.  They don't let us get our driver's license in Texas until you can haul livestock...I am just kidding.  An old country vet once told me that horses can balance themselves most of the time in the trailer.  However, they will have less stress on their legs and less general fatigue if they have the divider to balance again on curvy roads.

  2. I think she would like the extra room to be able to move side to side to help catch her balence.  I find horses are more comfortable with out dividers.  She most likely will not be moving around that much more because of the road.  Also if that is how she is use to trailering then it will be better to leave it.

  3. If she's accustomed to riding in that trailer with the divider down, I would assume she'd be most comfortable that way.

While the divider does allow a certain amount of support, if she's ridden without it all the time, then you add it hoping it will give her support, it might make her worried about the suddenly cramped space.

I once owned a great big QH gelding - he'd been trailered alone in a two horse trailer without divider.  He absolutely would not ride in the space of one horse - he had to have the space of two.  So be careful - I would suggest trailering her a short ways with the divider up first to be sure she doesn't freak out due to claustrophobia..

    Good luck!

  4. hey sabrina, i would suggest putting the divider up because it will give him something to lean against.

  5. Im guessing you have a two horse slant load.  Since any more then a two horse would just be silly to leave all the dividers open on.  You will want to put the divider up to help her stabilize herself.  Too much room would possibly cause her to slip and fall.  Just make sure you have her in a nice shipping halter and wraps and bell boots to give her as much protection as possible.  I wouldnt use a sheet since the weather is so hot now she might be uncomfortable.  Remember to use the turn outs as a courtesy to other travelers and your hazard lights dependingon the speed.  Take it nice and slow and avoid abrupt maneuvers.  If your horse loads eaily and you happen to find a large turnout or rest stop that is not near the traffic you might want to consider taking her out and walking her for a few minutes depending on how the trip goes.

  6. I think she would probably appreciate the extra support on the windy road, as long as she doesn't have issues with smaller spaces.

We have a pony who leans as far against the wall and cross ties as he can whenever he's on the trailer. We watch him on the camera the whole ride. LAZY PONY!!! He is ALWAYS leaning. It is sooo funny!
