  1. no special license required.

make sure your car can hold the weight. it depends on the trailer (if its made of aluminum, steel, etc) aluminum would be easier to pull since its lighter. some SUVs can pull trailers (bumperpull, but obviously not a gooseneck). But you can never go wrong with a truck. a regular car or sedan will probably not be able to pull any kind of trailer. you would have to get your trailer inspected and have tags, etc. also make sure your turn signals/brake lights work when you hook it up.

why the thumbs down? my answer has NOTHING wrong with it!

  2. if your car can handle the weight. you dont have to have a license.  you just have to have a license plate on your trailer and i think lights (like turning signals)

    but no special license

  3. No, but I don't recommend pulling a horse trailer with a car. Doesn't seem very safe to me.

  4. Nope, the trailer just has to have a licence plate

Edit: make sure that your car can handle the weight of the trailer and the horse

  5. you should be able to pull a trailer if you have a large 4x4 or a big people carrier

    are you Alex Hill?

  6. in the UK you need to have a license that allows you to pull a trailer.

i think the date was 1st jan 1997. if you pass before that date a normal driving license lets you pull the trailer. after that date you need to pass a seperate test to be allowed to pull one.

  7. Well, in the US you don't need any particular license.

You need a suitable tow vehicle and a good, well installed hitch, and some practice.  Turning and backing can be quite an adventure for the novice.

Pulling too large a trailer (in regards to weight) with too small a vehicle is extremely dangerous for you, your horses, and everyone else on the road.  It's not just being able to get moving, you have to be able to stop and corner as well.

Being pushed straight through a corner across an oncoming lane of traffice is a butt clenching, underwear soiling, life changing experience.

I'd recommend checking with your dealer to make sure your car is rated for towing, and then I'd also check with whoever installs your hitch about the ratings for it.

  8. You do not need a special license but you do need appropriate equipment.  Brenderup trailers were designed to be pulled by cars - in Europe, were gas prices were routinely higher than they are here, most horse people are not driving around in big trucks or SUVs and need a lightweight trailer that can be pulled by a car.  You can buy Brenderup trailers here in the US and I have heard people say some good things about them.

  9. horse trialers are made to be towed by cars
