Question:

Horse using restroom alot. Help?

Yesterday when I had my horse out she went pee twice and i had to take her back to her stall so she could go a third time. This is very uncharacteristic of my horse. I know it is hotter so horses are drinking more water but this doesn't seem normal. Does anyone have any ideas what this is?

  1. If she's not doing a 'full' pee...I would suspect her being in season.

After she pees...does her v***a 'wink?'  The bottom couple inches or so of her v***a will open and close repeatedly.  This is called 'winking.'

Has her attitude changed any?  Could be more aggressive or more loving.

She could be holding her tail off to the side a little.

Does she turn her rump to you?  Not in aggression, but trying to get closer to you?

Her training may go to pot...just won't seem to do anything right.

May walk with her hind legs kinda spread out...

These are all symptoms of being in season.  Some mares show all of them...some only one or two...and some not at all except for the peeing and winking.

If it's not gone in a few days...then give the vet a call.  But I'm betting she's in season...

  2. Hello,

THIS is VERY normal for a mare, she is in season!  They tend to go over and over...  This is their way of attracting a mate.

    NO need to worry!

  3. JJH Is probably right.

But, if she seems to be in pain, it could be a bladder infection (rare in horses, but not compltely unheard of.) If it doesn't clear up in a week (Give her time to get over her cycle) or if she just seems to be in a LOT of pain (Not to be confused with the whining and screaming they sometimes do if a stud is nearby), I would definetly at least call the vet and see what he or she thinks.

    Good luck!

  4. well she's not like actually peeing but she is in season so its normal
