  1. 4 years of undergraduate + 4 years of veterinary school + 3-4 years for equine internal medicine or 4-5 years for equine surgery board certification.  Then pass boards.  Or you can get a Veterinary degree and work on horses as part of your practice.  That's what I do.

  2. well it depends on how far you want to get.  I'm working my way up to UC Davis to be a doctor. I'm taking an easier way so I have some background when I go in by going to tech school before I go to Davis.  So thats

GE - 4 years (UC needs classes from state colleges)

Vet Tech school - 2 years (which I might start in year 2 of normal school)

Davis- 4-6 years and knowing me I will stay to study even more

They have those quick schools that they show on TV but I dare not go to them.  I want as much info as possible...even if it takes longer.

  3. It takes usually 4 years (3 years minimum, but it may be hard to get all the required courses done by then) of undergraduate, preveterinary college and then you apply to vet schools and if you are accepted, it takes 4 years to get your D.V.M . degree.  To specialize in horses, it is highly desirable and almost a must to have at least one year in an internship at a top equine facility or vet school.  So, a minimum of 7 years and usually more like 8 or 9 years of education, which you then maintain with continuing education courses every year.  You will find that you should never stop learning, and you often learn more in practice than you did in vet school!!

  4. Including university and graduate programs, it takes about 8 to become any type of vet. (Where I live, anyway)

edit: thought I'd explain the 8 years: you usually have to get a degree in an animal related science which takes about 4 years, and then you have to apply to veterinary school. Once you get accepted, each school is different, but you spend about 4-5 years there learning the medicine.

  5. about 5 i think

  6. You have to do 4 years of undergraduate work (thats assumming you get your degree done in the average amount of time).  Then you have 4 years of vet school, regardless of what type of vet you want to be.

Some schools offer an accelerated program where you enter vet school after 3 years of undergrad, without really finishing your degree.  This way you get done in a total of 7 years instead of 8.

  7. 8 where i live

  8. my friends dad is a vet for horses and it took 8 years

  9. you have your 4 years of undergrad, and then 4-5 for vet school
