The Vet gave him a IV ones.

  1. If its trouble with the kidneys, there's not much you can do. Most any animal with trouble in the kidneys needs to be put down. In the worst case, I'm sorry to say, you will have to put the horse down. Even if it isn't the worst case, would it be kind to the horse to let it live?

There's always the option of a second opinion by another vet. There aren't many things that cause a horse to not eat, but mulereiner listed some pretty good ones.

  2. How old is the horse?

I would check for ulcers, I would check for CHF.. I would check for abcessed tooth..

Why does the vet think kidney infection?  Did he have a high white count?

  3. It seems a bit premature to start writing the obituary on the horse.  Tests aren't even in, antibiotics haven't been used, here is a link to some natural products that have been proven to work...

Vets do make mistakes, they are the first to admit that they might miss something.  Don't rule out a second opinion either.

  4. just give him lots of love until u know

  5. It will depend on the results of the bloodwork, but, if the horse truly hasn't eaten for a week, there is probably something seriously wrong.  I have to wonder why they've waited a week to have the vet out.  If he is in kidney distress, it would have been far better to get him on fluids and try to get him through it sooner rather than later.  If it is a worst case scenario, and he is in kidney failure, or some other serious malady, it would be a far, far kinder thing to go ahead and euthanize than to let him suffer through it to the end.  Worst case, I can't imagine she would want to see her horse down, struggling in distress, possibly even seizuring and harming himself even more, to have the same end result.  I don't mean to come across terribly negative, and I hope that they do find a resolution which involves a happy ending for the horse.

  6. I suggest getting a second opinion. I trust my vet with my TB mare and she almost died from being misdiagnosed. She stopped eating and drinking for a few days. I had the vet out and he said she was coliced, which I knew she wasn't. I started observing her when she tried to drink so I checked her teeth, she had a bad one that cause her pain whem she drank. Also the tooth affected her eating because she wan't chewing it properly and a piece of oats got stuck in her esophegus. It swelled and cause a blockage (Choke), I actually had to tell the vet what was wrong with her! If I had listened to my vet the first time she would have died, so get a second opinion.

  7. trust ur vet just wait

  8. maybe  you can try starting out with small things like treats and keep temting him to want it and to have it. don't give in! he needs to eat so you h ave to make him have the treats.

  9. you are just going have to trust your vet and see what happens
