Horseracing fans enjoy a thrilling weekend – a round-up of what happened in USA
The horseracing fans in USA were privileged to witness an exciting weekend, June 23rd. The entertaining started off with a massive upset, when Sloane Ranger sprang up a huge surprise in the Donald Levine Memorial Handicap (Dirt) at Parx.
The 98-10 chance did a wonderful job to secure the top rank by a neck’s distance. It was a shocking result for the bookmakers, who declared Toby's Corner favourite ahead of the race. In the hands of F. Pennington, Sloane Ranger played his card wisely and
bagged the winning prize convincingly.
The spectators at Woodbine saw a thrilling performance by Hammers Terror. Michael Stidham’s charge was pretty impressive all the way through, as he secured the top prize by 3¾ lengths in the Charlie Barley Stakes (Turf). He defeated Excaper, who was one
of the most preferred runners in the 1-mile event.
The excitement went to its maximum level, when Dancing Solo danced her way to an easy victory in the Grade 3 Boiling Springs Stakes. Ridden by J. Bravo, the filly started troubling her rivals right from the beginning. She maintained the highest standards
of speed and stamina to ensure the top status by one and a half lengths.
The Sweet And Sassy Stakes at DelAWare Park saw Gleaming upsetting the 4-5 favourite, Bold Affair, by 1¼ lengths. The W. Bret Calhoun-trained mare outsmarted her rivals comprehensively, giving them no chance to spoil her party.
The five-year-old earned the lowest odds and no one was expecting her to make some damage. However, it was a different story all together on the course, as she stunned everyone with a flawless effort.
Blueeyesintherein was probably the only one, who lived up to the expectations last weekend. The Grade 3 Debutante Stakes at Churchill downs saw Quiet Success presenting no major threat to the champion filly.
Garry W. Simms’ debutant runner made no mistake after establishing her supremacy, finishing on top of the table by two and a half lengths. The juvenile was so impressive that it was almost impossible for the rest of the pack to challenge her.
There were many other interesting competitions in USA and the drama was no less than England's Royal Ascot Meeting. The sport’s lovers are expected to find a lot more entertainment in the coming days.
