  10. I don't know how close you are to Akron or Canton Ohio but you say you are in Ohio and so if it is not too far I suggest you check out the horse auctions in Sugarcreek Ohio, which is about 1 hour south of Akron and 30 minutes south of Canton. Sugarcreek Livestock Auction at South Broadway & Buckeye Street in Sugarcreek, Ohio has a cattle auction every Monday and a horse and tack auction every Friday. The horse & tack auction begins at 11am on Fridays and usually runs until 5pm or a little after and it is easy to find some very sound riding horses there selling at bids around $300. The slaughter buyers stop bidding between $250 and $300 and I have seen some very nice and very sound horses of the most common breeds (Quarter Horse, Morgan, Arabian, Fox Trotter, Walking Horse, Appaloosa, Thoroughbred, Saddlebred, American Paint, etc.) sell at bids from $300 to $700. You will find that most are not well trained and under-weight, a lot also have health issues, but if you hire someone to go with you who is a good judge of horseflesh when buying a horse, if you are not yourself, you will most certainly be able to find jewels in the rough which can be purchased for pennies on the dollar. And it is fairly easy to find an experienced horse trainer who will take it and work with it 4 or 5 days a week for as little as $400 a month if you are not able to train or retrain it yourself. So before you buy, why not consider giving a salvageable auction horse a loving and permanent home?
