i asked (and removed it cause i felt like it) about going to a show (to watch) of a friend of a families. as it turns out we wont be going, it was a weekend show and the girl's horse ended up rolling in the ring, she's in the hospital with a broken leg now. i just wanted to ask if1.if you would keep her in you're thoughts tonight? 2.be less rude over things you dont know about when someone askes a general question? (i feel bad nuff bout the accident, i dont need to feel bad over asking a question on this site). 3.has anyone heard/seen a horse roll in the ring(as in a general flat work class)? i personally never have, but i have seen other type of accidents in other areas of riding; jumping, eventing, racing, ect.

thanks for all the answers, i just hope she's doing better tonight.also, i dont feel like asking many more questions in the horse section, due to the fact people have been so belittling/rude that i dont feel like reading anything. i just wanted to ask one last serious question

  1. A card would be nice.

Yes, I've known horses who rolled with a rider on their back.  Normally it happens when crossing a stream though.

I had a friend who bought a little appy gelding who would just flat out lay down when going out on the trail.  He was so badly spoiled that my friends finally gave him away because he wasn't worth the money to have somebody train him out of it.

Did anybody check her horse after he/she rolled?  Maybe a touch of colic?

  2. Sorry about what happened, but yes I hvae seen all kinds of accidents in the ring. I was showing about 2 years ago and they was this girl beside of me and we was standing to be judged and awards to be given out and her horse threw her right there in the ring. I have also seen horse fall during flat classes, platform classes, and pacing classes even halter class. It can happen to anyone in all types of classes. All it takes is for a horse to loose its footing. Hope this helped you out

  3. I will keep her in my prayers. And as for the fact that horses rolling in rings, yes, I've seen that. My best friend was riding her gelding, and he stretched out, then buckled his knees, and went down, fast as you could imagine. My friend was lucky to jump off unscathed, but there are some who aren't as lucky.

<3 I think a card would be nice, just so she knows that she's being thought of.

  4. Oh, so sorry! Send a card, it'll make her feel better. I've only heard of a horse rolling with tack on...but not a rider.

  5. Yes, I will keep the girl in my thoughts and prayers tonight.

How did the horse roll? Did the horse blow up before he/she rolled or did the horse just drop to the ground and roll? I have seen horses roll around frantically before if some type of insect was biting them where they couldn't reach or it was stuck under the saddle. I have seen horses do this before in the show ring.

Yes, I know when people on here just will blow up on you or basically "bully" you. All I know is that I do not have to prove anything to you or anyone else. I know what I can and cannot do, and when or when not i want to do.

I have found some really "good" people on here that will share their experience with you and give you the techniques that they know and have learned. I may or may not know the technique but they are helping.

I have found others on here that are "bad" people; they try to tell others that they are "stupid" and cannot do something or they do not know what they are talking about. Just really sour people.

All i know is that whatever the motives are to answering a Yahoo! Answer; I do not have to take in everything that everyone says. If I did, i would be one confused person with crazy horses. lol.

Just keep your chin up and if someone is "just being sour". Forget about them.

  6. i am very sorry about people being rude to you i know how it feels. I will keep your daughter in my prayers and i hope she is doing better tommorow. And yes i have seen horses roll, my friends horse was ridding her horse and he just rolled she got off in time but he has done it more than once i dont know why he does it but its very dangerous. your not the only one with a rolling horse

  7. I fear I may be one of those who hurt your feelings, and I am  so sorry if I am.  Sometimes I don't think about what I'm saying thoroughly enough before I start punching keys.  At any rate, I hope you'll give an old fool like me a second chance....I truly am sorry if my answer was one of the ones that hurt. I'm so saddened to hear about your friend, and I wish her the best.

I have been on a horse that rolled, but was able to get off as he went down.  He was colicking at the time.

Again,  please don't let anyone's dumb answer keep you from continuing to post questions....especially if it's mine.  I will try to think twice before I answer, and stay offline if I'm having a bad day...I promise. Forgive us???

  8. Yes to the card and I will keep her in my prayers. So sorry this happened send her my best wishes. Hope her and her horse gets well!

  9. Yes, I have seen a horse roll with a rider. He didn't even trip or anything, he just wanted a good 'ole dust blanket. Fortunately nobody was injured.

  10. Very sorry to hear about your friend. It is indded a terrible accident and I appolgize for anyone on here (or anywhere else) that has been rude or spiteful regarding it. Though I don't recall your other questions, no one should ever belittle someone for asking a honest question.

I'll be very happy to keep her in my thought and most definately wish her a speedy recovery.

Regarding if I've ever saw it happen before, I've seen it in halter classes but never personally in a riding class...have heard of it though. Have had grouchy horses do it at home as well that just didn't want to be ridden. But I'm assuming since this was a show that your talking about a well trained horse that has never done this before?

What brought it on is almost impossible to even guess at without being there and knowing the full situation. Sometimes though when horses get very stressed they, like humans, feel constricted and need more air. Many times I've saw horses (especially young horses) that were girthed up too tightly and/or too fast roll, the pressure around their ribs constricts their lungs and they feel like they can't breathe, panic and try to roll.

Many other things could have caused it. With horses there's really no telling what could have been going through it's head at the time. Could even have been a new show gel or fly spray that irritated her skin to the point she felt she needed to roll to get it off, saddle hurting her back, mild colic...just too many to list or even make a guess really.

Again, I hope your friend is okay. I feel it would certainly be apropriate to send her a Get Well card. Doesn't have to be anything elaborate, just let her know your sorry that she is injured and that you wish her a speedy recovery. It's the thought that counts and she'll know you were thinking about her.

  11. Hi,

I am sorry that you feel this way, but you have to take anything from people on Yahoo Answers with a grain of sand.

    To answer your questions:

    1) Sure, I hope she gets better and makes a full recovery.

    2) Yes, I promise to not be rude. Although I try to be as nice as possible already! :-) I didn't answer your last question. Sometimes you forget to be sensitive and that you are talking to a real person because you are not talking to the person face-to-face so you are more bold. But I promise!

    3) Yes, My sister rolled her horse.  She was break away roping at a junior rodeo and as soon as she threw her rope the calf felt it hit his neck and laid down.  My sister tumbled over the cow.(her horse tripped over it) She and her horse both fell but the horse tried to avoid lying on her, so she had minimal injuries.  She tumbled but walked away! Thank God! She didn't have to go to the hospital though.

Yes, send her a card! Just simply write: "I was so sorry to hear about your accident!  Let me know if I can do anything to help!  I hope I can make it out to see you soon! Get well soon!"

Something like above would be appropriate and formal/informal at the same time.

    I hope I helped! :-)

  12. Yeah I've heard of it.

The closest experiance to a accident where the horse rolled in the areana was when I was lunging a green mare and she stopped, layed down and started rolling.

I am so sorry about the families friend though. I have had to delt with a lot of accidents like that and a few actually being fatal. I send best regards to her from my own personal experiance of riding and having injuries like broken bone, concussion and a few others.

  13. If you don't know what to write keep it short and say what you mean.  Since you don't know her well at all, you can't be humerous or it would be crass.  Sending the card will be a wonderful gesture and she will appreciate it very much.

Yes, people are often rude and belittling.  I have very high regard for people who ask questions here.  There is such a thing as a stupid quuestion - it's the one you don't ask.

I will keep you and the girl who got rolled on in my thoughts.  I have heard of a horse rolling while being ridden, but I would certainly have to have more firsthand informantion to be able to give any opinion as to why this horse may have done it.
