  1. Normal temperature for a horse is about 101 F. If his temperature is 97.8, it is way too low.

If he is sick and you really don't want anything to happen to him, you will get a vet to look at him so that a qualified person can figure out what is wrong and prescribe a treatment. No one on YA can tell you. The folks here are not qualified and cannot examine your horse.

Your horse has apparently been sick for two weeks and you say he has been depressed since a colic episode weeks ago and you have not called the vet yet. What are you waiting for?

  2. I would say call the vet as opposed to freaking out online...no one on here is going to be able to help effectively unless they can actually see the pony....call the vet...dont be cheap...

  3. Is your horse running out or in a stall?  His temp falls within or below what is should be, but usually if there is color to a discharge, there is an infection somewhere going on.  So, that information seems contradictory and at this point (or sooner) I would call my vet and make an appointment to bring your horse in.  I can't imagine any reason that you haven't already other than the costs, so taking your horse to the vet will save you the house call...I would suggest that you get your appointment made as soon as possible, this has already gone on way too long.

  4. A normal horse temp is between 99.5 and 101.4 but a healthy horse can vary by 3 degrees. It doesn't sound like your pony has a fever. Do you have any other signs that he's not feeling well? For instance, is he eating and drinking, is he lethargic, is he lying down? If he seems normal, he's probably fine.

  5. A horses normal body temp is 101.  But it could be higher if they just had a long workout.  97 seems low.  Are there any other symptoms?

  6. The pony's tem is in the normal range.  Have you placed your ear against his belly and listened for gut sounds?  That's the rumbling you normally hear as a horse processes feed, etc.

IF you can't hear any sounds, your pony gets restless and either tries to lay down or keeps looking at his tummy could very well be colic again and it's time to call your vet.

IF he doesn't show those signs you could try giving him a HOT bran mash made with 1/2 3 LB coffee can of red flakey wheat bran and enough hot water to make it into a mash (It will look like the oatmeal your mom fixes for you.).  Let it cool down a bit then add a bit of molasses to it for taste and see if he'll eat it.

  7. its a little LOW...horses temps should be between 99.5 and 101.5....this may not be the case but from wat ive heard from vets wen a horses temp is low they could be in shock

  8. I would call the vet just incase and inform them of his colic if you haven't already. Even if you've already called once about this, call again and see what they can do. That would be the best idea.

  9. i have no idea what kind of horse is it? Maybe is I knew I could do some research for you.
