Horses that breakdown on the track?

Question

I no it sounds bad but I need some names of horses that have brokendown on the track for a report I am doing for school.

I have a few:

Ruffian

Barbaro

Go For Wand

Pine Island

George Washtion

Eight Belles

Well I would say you have a BIG REPORT

it happens all the time

you can add my horse OH ROMEO he broke a hind pastern which is very very rare and he was 4yrs old  and sound as a baby sleeping ..

Horses break down all the time NOT all get put down

some pull tendons some clip a quarter so may other reasons

I have seen and ridden horses that  broke down,

also accidents happens ,, One horse get his leg caught in the gate when he reared in DEL MAR

and broke it,,,  pulling it out

So theres many ways a horse breaks down the most commen is Bows next would be popping splints ,then chips , then last breaking a leg

Also horses running can clip another horse's hind feet and go down ,,

So many different ways how they break down

Chelokee would be one- though the surgery on him was successful, and he is expected to recover. He won't race again- that part of his life is over now- but at least he can stand at stud and sire foals. Charismatic also broke down, but had surgery on his leg and recovered from it. Other fatalities I can think of off the top of my head are Union City, who broke a foreleg in the 1993 Preakness, and Prairie Bayou, who was destroyed after breaking a leg in the Belmont 3 weeks later. You might also want to consider adding Swale to that list, because although he didn't break down on the track, he did suffer a heart attack in the winner's circle and die right after winning the Belmont in 1984. Little Current is another horse which broke down in the 1970's some time- I am not sure of the year.

Charismatic broke his left front leg at the end of the 1999 Belmont but he did not die.  He's still alive.
