  1. the horse and his boy was great i thaught. Written by C.S Lewis. heres a wikkipedia article about it - http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Horse_a... i know you asked for aduly material, but im 16 and when i read it, i loved it and i think anyone that likes horses will.

  2. I definitely recommend "The Valdez Horses" by Lee Hoffman.  I read it as a teenager but it is an adult book.  Hard to find in libraries/stores, but if you order it online, you can get it by the weekend probably.  I'll post a link to where you can order it...

Might even order myself one, now that I'm thinking of it...I'd love to read it again!

    http://www.amazon.com/Valdez-Horses-Lee-...

PS.  It is somewhat a "western" in nature, but is all based on horses, has a good plot, and is pretty realistic and down-to-earth fiction....so if you're looking for fantasy, this book isn't.

  3. For airplane reading, you can't beat "Chicken Soup for Horse Lovers"....lots of great, true short horse stories.

OOps...that's "chicken soup for the horse lover's soul".

  4. Well im in the middle of reading a classic. Black Beauty. Its an amazing book! and i havent even finished! I think any one who wants a horse should read that book, it gives you a great understanding of a horse.

  5. try

    flicka

    the black stallion

    the wild brumby

    they are amazing books

the second two are series so id grab the first two in the series

    xxxxxxxx

  6. I also loved Black Beauty, but one of the best Books you could ever own is.

How To Be Your Own Veterinarian"

You won't be able to put it down. I had to buy a few in the eighty's, so I could give them to friends!

It is an excellent book, and a must read for every Horse Lover!

  7. I don't have too many horse books (like non-factual horse books), but I do have two. (lol, I told you I didn't have too many:p)

Black Beauty - A classic, and a great book!

Chicken soup for the horse lovers soul - I'm sure you've heard of it a lot before, but it really is a great book! It has a whole bunch of different stories in it.

Anyways, those are the only two not factual (ie. fiction/fantasy) books I have so far, but I would recommend them! They're excellent!

  8. The Horse Whisperer

    Black Beauty

The horse whisperer has to be one of my favourite books, if you're into that kind of thing. And of course Black Beauty is a classic.

If you're in your late teens you should read some of the later Heartland series. they're ace!

  9. I loved The Horse Whisperer.  The book is so much better than the movie!!  The author, Nicholas Evans, has written lots of other good books too (not necessarily about horses, though) and they're all excellent!

  10. Blakc Beauty is a great read!

Off the horsey topic, "The Abortionist's Daughter" is a fabulous read, as is "Angels Passing" (can't remember the authors but I'm sure google can help :-)

    Have a nice time :-)

  11. I read a fantastic horsey book a few years ago - it was called Pride of Blueburton - about a racing yard with a love story entwined - really is a fantastic book

    xx

  12. I can't think of any grown up horsey books - apart from Jilly Cooper.

Those Jill books were good, if you fancy reliving your childhood!  I don't remember who wrote them... Ruby someone?  Excellent stuff, mine are all somewhere in the attic :)

  13. I read the book "Black gold" It was an amazing book. Um there is also  "Misty of chincoteague" And "Misty's foal" I found those to be pretty good. Um. . ."brighty of the grand canyon" is a cute one, its about a burrow though, not a horse. There is always the bunches of "black stallion" books and there is a series called "The phantom stallion". "King of the wind" was pretty good. An I loved "My friend Flicka" Which is nothing like the new movie.

    Hope I helped!

  14. hi, well i have just read 'a horse chose me' its a non fiction but a really good read.. just about perfect for a long haul flight, depending on how fast you read, you should finish it by the time you land ;-) ..happy hols x
