Oleksandr Horshkov has urged Nizhny Novgorod to work harder if they are to play in the Russian Premier League next season
Volga Nizhny Novgorod suffered a 2-1 defeat against Nizhny Novgorod in the relegation/promotion play-off round at stadion Lokomotiv on Friday.
Though, the hosts managed to score the opening goal of the game, they failed to hold on to their lead after conceding two goals in the second-half at their home.
In aftermath of the outcome, Oleksandr Horshkov has lamented the latest defeat against the Volgari, and has urged his side to win the upcoming crunch league tie against the same opposition on the away turf.
Horshkov conceded that his players deserve a word of gratitude after they played a fantastic game of football despite the fatigue. The 42-year-old assured the fans of promoting the Russian outfit to the Russian Premier League next
season.
While summing up his team’s performance, Horshkov admitted that they started the match beautifully after scoring early on in the game. He insisted that Nizhny Novgorod would have drawn the match had they taken all their chances.
Besides crediting his own side for putting in a lot of effort in their latest game, the UEFA Cup winner heaped praise on their opponents as well. Horshkov admitted that Volga have some decent players and Nizhny Novgorod failed
to resist their attacks.
“We need to think about the next match and prepare for it because football is unpredictable. We did the right things in the first half and we were happy to open the scoring but we disappointed the fans at the end. It is necessary
to prepare for the next match and do not panic."
“Volga have a number of skilled players that have experience at the top level. But I think we looked very worthy opponent.” The Russian Cup winner was quoted as saying.
Speaking on Matija Dvornekovic, Horshkov admitted that the 23-year-old midfielder had played decently. However, he told the Croatian midfielder to work harder if he is to get more first team action.
