Horsracing tracks between Chicago and New Orleans?

Question

Driving to New Orleans at the end of the month.I want to stop at many of the tracks on the way What tracks are operating.Big or small tracks.Harness or flat.Want to take as many as ten days to enjoy myself at what I like to do,pick winners.Tips accepted.Winners perfered.

If you want to give a little more detail on which route you are taking I can make some recommendations. I travel up and down the East Coast working the races, but am not real familiar with Chicago- New Orleans routes.

There are some great small tracks all across the US. I'm fairly certain you will be near Louisiana Downs at least, but if you come near W. Va try and stop at Mountaineer.

If you leave Chicago on I-55 and head toward St. Louis, Fairmount Race Track in Collinsville, IL (about 15 min. from St. Louis) is a great race track.  They have night races on Friday and Saturday nights at 7:30.  The last race of the season is Saturday, September 29.  If you need more information, their website is http://www.fairmountpark.com.  The track is right only a few miles off of I-55.

There is River Downs in Cincinnati, and Turfway Park in Northern Kentucky (right off I-75).  Good Luck & have fun!

I know Hawthorne just opened a meet last week. Hoosier Park in Anderson, In. has 2 graded races the weekend of Oct.6. The best of those the Indiana Derby which usually brings in some good quality runners. Indiana Downs has a harness meet going in Shelbyville,In. Turfway in Florence Ky. always has good racing and an excellent facility. Kentucky Downs which runs all turf races has a short meet going right now. Good Luck!

River Downs in Cincinnait closed after Labor Day. Turfway in northern KY is open thru September and has some nice racing. This Saturday is KY Cup Day at Turfway. Top 2 finishers in the years KY Derby are expected to start. Will be a great day of racing. Keeneland in Lexington KY will open Oct 5.
