The Schalke general manager has revealed that Raul has requested for more time to make a decision regarding the new contract.
The striker’s future has been under widespread speculation in the past few weeks and there have been talks that the player will return to http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Raul-c30652 one-year
extension to his current deal and the player needs time to consider.
Heldt revealed that the former Spain international has asked for some more time to make a decision as he needs to address the issue with his family. The general manager played down reports that the striker has asked for a hike
in salary and needs one more year on the deal, claiming that the player has no problems with the new offer.
“There's nothing new to report, however, in that no decision has been taken. Raul has simply asked for more time to think things over and we'll obviously give him that. For him it's not about the length of contract or money, it's
a basic decision about his future,” he was quoted as saying in an interview.
On the other hand, the chief stated that a decision could be made before the end of the season. He admitted that it could even take beyond that as it totally depends on how much time the Spaniard takes.
Heldt admitted that it would be a very difficult decision for the player to make as it would certainly be the last move of his playing career. He added that the attacker will be given all the time he needs to decide his future.
“A decision may be made before the end of the season but it could easily be the case that it's taken later. Raul will, of course, be given all the time he needs because I know from my own experience that decisions like these aren't
easy,” he concluded.
Raul has been in inspiring form this season for Schalke and the player has scored 17 times in all competitions. The striker has been instrumental in this campaign and has developed a brilliant partnership upfront with Klaas-Jan
Huntelaar.
