The Schalke general manager has expressed his frustration on Die Knappen’s defeat to Twente in the UEFA Europa League.
The http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Luuk-de-Jong-c22956 scored the only goal of the match after a controversial penalty was awarded
to his side in the second-half of the game.
Heldt blasted the referee for the decision and claimed that the striker stumbled over his own feet. Joel Matip was sent off for reportedly bringing down the Dutch international but the replays clearly showed that it was a poor
decision from the referee and the Schalke defender had no contact whatsoever with the opposition striker.
The chief insisted that the officials should admit the mistake they have made as the decision can cost Schalke hugely. He added that errors are not acceptable at this level of football and admitted that the defeat was a ‘huge disappointment’.
“He falls over his own feet. This is a complete disaster. There is no real fun if there are such amateurs. This really annoyed me. It's a bottomless disappointment. This is a very grave mistake. They've made a mistake, they should
stand up and admit the error,” he was quoted as saying in an interview.
Heldt also raised his voice in favour of video technology and insisted that it could have been an easy decision if the facility was available. He stated that technology should be used as decisions like these can cost the club in
a massive way.
“Uefa has been closed off to the prospect of video technology for years, but it would have taken 10 seconds for the referee to see the incident again on a screen, and he would have known that there was nothing there,” he concluded.
Die Knappen will next face Hamburg in the Bundesliga on Sunday, March 11, at the Veltins-Arena. They will return for the second-leg of the round of 16 fixture against http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/FC-Twente-c39233 on Wednesday, March 18, in a bid to qualify for the
