The club’s general manager has defended Solbakken after the recent round of poor results and has stated that he has full confidence in him.
FC Koln are currently 14th on the Bundesliga standings table with 24 points from the 23 games played thus far. The Billy Goats are four points from the relegation play-off place and suffered another home defeat this
season when they lost 2-0 to Bayer Leverkusen last Saturday.
If recent reports are to be believed, Koln have decided to part ways with manager, Stale Solbakken, at the end of this week and Volker Finke, who is the director of sport at the club, is expected to manage the side until the end
of the season.
Claus Horstmann has denied any such reports and has claimed that Stale Solbakken has the backing of the board and the side has no plans to part ways with him in the near future. He stated that the boss will be free from pressure
in the next game against Hoffenheim and the club has full faith in Solbakken.
The chief insisted that the side needs confidence in the upcoming games and they will be able to gain their form back to end in the top-half of the table.
“As things stand, the coach and the team will be free from pressure in the Hoffenheim game and also the following games. They will be allowed to work professionally and be able to reach their goals. In my eyes, we are fully convinced
that we will reach our goals together with Stale Solbakken, which is why we are acting the way we are,” he was quoted as saying in an interview.
Horstmann further brushed aside rumours that Volker Finke will replace Solbakken at the club. He stated that Finke has been appointed as the director of sport and he has his role at the club.
“Volker Finke is not our emergency back-up for the coaching position. There is no need for us to work on a scenario without Stale Solbakken,” he concluded.
FC Koln will next take on Hoffenheim on Sunday, March 4, at the Rhein-Neckar-Arena.
