  1. i help out at a stables near me. its a riding school so we just do simple stuff like groom the horses ready for the lessons and tack them up before the lesson starts and then muck out the stables when the horses are being used. we also fill any hay nets that need doing, make feeds for the horses and bring in horses from the field or take horses out to the field! i think you will be fine and im sure they will help you out for your first few days until you get the hang of it! you could just wear simple stuff that you wont mind gettin dirty! however when im helping out i sometimes ride a horse if theres no jobs to do so i wear my jodpurs. i dont think they will expect you to do loads at first they will probs start you off with some easy jobs then once you settle in they will prob give you more each time!!  the best thing to do is just not worry! they will help you out and if your struggling then say! they will understand that your new to helping out at the stables!  just go and have fun you will settle in fine! good luck with it and i hope you have a good time! xx

  2. well the people in the stable probly already have a routine so the number one thing to do is say what can I do to help and be careful

  3. You should have clothes that you don't care if they get dirty, also be prepared to have some of these clothes ruined.

You should also maybe invest in some paddock boots or boots that go up to the knee so that your pants don't look totally gross after mucking out a stall.

Keep in mind that being a stable hand is physically demanding, you have to be able to lift, shovel, and occasionally deal with some testy horses.

I hope that this helped and I hope you enjoy your time in the barn!

  4. You might want some boots and some old clothes for mucking out. And whats expected of you is dedication, hard work, and responisibility.

  5. if you're going to be mucking stalls i would bring a face mask if dust bothers you. its a lot easier to work when you can breath better. most important would be to do things the way they do them, if you aren't sure how the want something done i would ask because some horse people will throw a fit if something isn't like it should be, lol they kind of act like a horse. and don't be afraid to speak up if you notice something different about a horse. just wear clothes you can get dirty in so your mom doesn't want to kill you for wrecking your good clothes. gum boots or something like that would be good, there is nothing more disgusting than wet shavings in you shoe. good luck :), hopefully you'll learn as much as i did when i worked at barns.

  6. Well you will wear what you where when you clean out your horses stall.

But if you dont have a horse i can see why you are asking this.

You will need boots. I ussally wear jeans or shorts that arent my favorite and some old shirt.

You will probally be feeding the horses and giving them water. Grooming, cleaning. I dont think you will be riding any of the horses. When i was 13 i asked if i could work at a stable, my dad woudlnt let me but i was there so it asked them any way. They said all i would do is muck out the stalls. I doughbt they will let you do anything with the horses because you are a minor. So you will be expected to clean stalls, and tack.

Im getting a job at a stables when i get back from MO. I will be 16 so im sure i will be doing the same thing. but hey it helps pay for lessons!

  7. If your doing stable hand work, then Id suggest some mucking boots, and clothes that you can get dirty in.

If you know how to tack up, and groom, and mucking out the stalls, then great! They will tell you what they want you to do, dont worry!

  8. you need to make sure you have boots and as it's a stables they will usually require everyone to wear a riding hat when on the yard (health and safety)

they may require you to wear a shirt/jumper that is specific to their stables and beige jodpurs are fine unless they say otherwise.

you need to show confidence around the horses (not over confident though, don't need any accidents)

if you know the basics your well on your way. showing a love of horses and an interest in them will show your willing to work and you'll be a great asset to the team. good luck.

  9. I don't realy know they'll propaply have you clean tack, groom, muck out, sweep the barn, maybe feed. I dont really know. Nothing to difficult. You should were jeans any shirt really and maybe boots or tenni shoes. We have our own barn my dad makes me and my sister muck, groom, sweep ,clean saddles, etc...., I wear pants and sometimes shorts if it's over 80 degrees. But I always were my boots.
