  1. You are not paranoid enough. get this fixed before you burn to death.

The slightest spark can ignite the fuel vapors. Do not attempt to drive the van until it is repaired!

  2. Yes you can do it yourself. Estimate the distance and buy more hose or go get a dealer part if meta.l,start at 1 end and trace the route to the other end. Explode no fire yes.

  3. your friend is correct! gas leaking on the engine or neer the exhaust can ignite and engulf the van in flames. you didnt say the year of the van but if its fuel injected you need to replace the fuel line complete if its a carb model than you can go to the car parts store and section in some fuel line with 2 good clamps. one important point, Gasoline can ignite from ANY heat soarse bad plug wire loose coil wire fit, bad wire connection to a lamp etc. you might as well be playing russian rulette with 5 bullets in a six shooter!

  4. its very cheap to fix.

go to auto parts store and get fuel line and new hose clamps.

it leaks when running because the fuel is under pressure then.

it is dangerous because it could start a fire as it leaks on to a hot motor.

    get this fixed right away.

    it's a cheap fix , even at a shop , and it's a safety issue.
