Question:

Hosing off horse when it's hot out?

I'm looking out the window at my horse in the back. It's gotta be 95 out there. She won't go stand in the shade either. I'm thinking about hosing her off with cool water... But then I'm thinking when the sun hits her wet hair, it'll just make her hotter. Hmmm? I'm wondering about the physics of this?

  1. i always hose my horses down when its hot it, it will be fine, they always seem much hapier after. Its like jumping in the pool and then laying out in the sun.

    hope i helped

  2. actually, the sun hitting her wet hair should help. the water acts as sweat does, and when it evaporates, you feel cooler.

but i'm not sure if it's safe to do that - i'm not an animal expert. but i do know that if a sheep gets wet, it'll die from getting sick because the water doesn't evaporate from it's woolly coat - it gets stuck. i don't know if this applies for horses too.

if you know, then you can decide. ignoring that, however, hosing a horse pff should cool it.

  3. you need to comb her afterwards

  4. Yes, it'll cool her.
