Hossein Vafaei Ayouri surges into semi-final beating Abdul Sattar: 2012 7-Nation Snooker Championship
Iranian National Champion, Hossein Vafaei Ayouri proved his division of skills after he showed a tremendous snooker genius in the quarter-final stage of the 2012 Jubilee Insurance 7-nation Snooker Championship at the Pearl Continental Hotel Karachi.
The Iranian showed consistency throughout the last-8 match and totally unsettled his opponent, Pakistan’s Abdul Sattar. With the help of some impressive breaks, Vafaei was able to grab a whitewash victory over the Pakistani cueman by the scores of 5-0. Sattar
failed to improvise during the contest and missed his chance to hit the semi-final spot of the tournament.
Before the start of the tournament, Vafaei was being considered as one of the top contenders to clinch the tournament title along with Muhammad Asif, Yasin Merchant and Muhammad Sajjad. Beating Sattar by a whitewash score line, he proved why he is the potential
candidate for the title. However, Sattar tried his best to add even a single frame on his side of the scoreboard but failed to claim any rack.
The quarter-final clash began with a astounding frame win by the Iranian potter who fired a sensational break of 64 to win the first frame by the score line of 92-0. However, Sattar was able to pot 12 points in the second frame but Vafaei’s 97-point run
in the scrappy frame brought him 2-0 up.
The third frame started in a tussling way as both potters played closely but in the end, the current World Under-21 Champion, Vafaei took the set by 72-30 to move within three frames up at 3-0. Tumbling three sets down was indeed a pressure situation for
the Pakistani potter and he had to come up with some strategy to cope with that pressure.
Sattar bounced back into the game when he pocketed 63 points in the fourth frame. These 63 points did not do any good as Vafaei scored 69 in reply to Sattar’s 63 and added another frame in his account. The 17-year-old Iranian ensured his victory in the quarter-final
match by winning the fifth set by 56-30.
Vafaei will be meeting the former Pakistan National Snooker Champion and former Asian Snooker Championship runner up, Sargodha’s Muhammad Sajjad in the semi-final contest of 2012 Jubilee Insurance 7-nation Snooker Championship.
