Hostel's, Hotel's, or Pubs, which is the best place to stay?

I am traveling in WINTER all across Ireland and while I have a basic plan for where I am going to go, I do not want to be locked into it.

Since booking fee's and deposits for hostels are annoying I was wondering if hostels are cool for walk-in's or if booking is the only way to go. Also, IF hostels aren't good for walk-in's, are public houses any good?

Since winters in Ireland are apperently brutal, I don't want to be left out in the cold...litterally.

Keep in mind...I'm a college student...with the exchange rate, I have limited funds.

  1. i have stayed in some great hostels in dublin, the four courts hostel is really good and cheap and in the center of everything

  2. Most Hostels i have been to want you to reserve something ahead of time, but usually not long i have reserved the day before and had no problem especially in the winter its not that busy.  But you can always look before you go and see in what cities you plan to go to if they have hostels that allow walk ins. good luck have a great time Ireland is amazing and i miss it so much.

  3. hotel, that'S the only place your safe to live

  4. You can look for B&Bs too. Some are dirt cheap and you get a nice meal with the family.
