Hosts Thailand finally break the ice at the 2012 AVC Women’s Club Championship – Volleyball news
The hosts of 2012 AVC Women’s Club Volleyball Championship, women’s from Thailand finally grabbed first win of the tournament on Day 3.
The local team Chang defeated VTV Binh Dien Long An of Vietnam in straight sets to break the ice. The hosts overpowered the visiting team by sending 25-16, 25-20, and 25-17 on board. Success in third match of the preliminary round-robin moved Thailand to
1-2 record.
The home ladies demonstrated a spectacular show of volleyball on the centre court and entertained their large home crowd. The MCC Hall in Nakhon Ratchasima provided the backdrop for the match. The rowdy fans of Chang made huge noise and backed up the team
throughout the match.
The auction kicked with delivery of powerful serves by the home side. They provided plenty of power to the ball and directed it in the right spots. The guest team suffered some early set back and could not resist to Chang’s lead. The hosts added a flurry
of points, which further widened the gap of points. Vietnam team struggled at a low pace and failed to catch up with the strong rivals. With better display of attack-shots, Chang closed opening set at 25-16.
Chang continued with success in the following set and kept the pressure on opposite side. Nonetheless, the Vietnam players regrouped in the second set and learned from their mistakes in the opening stanza. They came up with better attack, which helped them
gave a good competition to hosts.
At the same time, they strengthened their defence line to stop Chang spikers. As a result, both teams staged an eye catching action on the net. The performance of VTV Binh Dien Long An noticeably improved in second set but still it was not enough to save
them from the regret. Despite a great effort in second set, Vietnam suffered the loss of second set in row.
In the third set, Chang could have quickly finished the match but a slew of unforced errors delayed the decision. Finally, Chang won third set and claimed match victory.
The home team had a more number of fresh and in-experienced players but it was the choice of Chang’s coach, who wanted to create an equal opportunity for players. He praised the wonderful effort of his players and especially took out the names of Ajcharaporn
Kongyot, Sontaya Keawbundit, and Pornpun Guedpard in his post-match comments.
The winning mentor of Chang, Kiattipong Radchatagriengkai, stated, “I think we won this match because we proved a class above our rivals. However, we can’t underestimate any rival in the near future. They can come much stronger at any time. Our young players
also need time to develop their skill and form. We have to correct our mistakes from this match, especially in the first-ball reception and spikes.”
