Hot/Cold teeth damage?

Ok, so when you fill a glass with cold water, then empty it out and fill it with hot water it cracks. So, how about the same with teeth? Say you eat an ice cream then drink hot chocolate immediately after. Will that damage your teeth? (Like cracking or internal damage) Same the other way, like eating hot macaroni then drinking cold water?

  1. I don't think that extreme thermal changes would hurt your teeth.  However, majority of people have cracks in their teeth without knowing it.  You would be able to see them if your dentist took pictures when an intra oral camera or shined his curing light behind your teeth.

  2. Teeth are  living things with the most amazing resistance to thermal swings  and chewing forces...

You can go from Ice water to Hot tea and won't cause any problems....in a healthy tooth....

But over time if they have decay and have to be repaired, the fillings will fail and have to be replaced...

That is why we try to prevent decay.....once a tooth's integrity is breached it is then doomed to fillings and crowns that are all second best to what we were given by our maker.....your natural teeth....keep them healthy and decay free!

  3. haha. I have no idea.
