Question:

Hot Dogs @ a BBQ ?

We are having an outdoor party and will not have a BBQ available. I had a suggestion about boiling the hot dogs and assembling them at home (just cooked dog and bun) and wrap in alumnium foil and put in a ice chest (of course with no ice) so it keeps the heat. Has anyone tried this? I am worried that they would be soggy if they had to be in the chest for 2 hours. Any tips or suggestions for hot dogs without a BBQ? Thanks much!

  1. The cooler (without ice) will keep them warm just fine.  Just keep the cooked dogs seperate from the buns and everything will turn out fine.  Bring the toppings (if you plan on them) in a seperate cooler (with ice) and there ya go...perfectly warmed dogs for a summer party!

  2. Totally agree. do not boil hot dogs in advance.. they get soggy and even rubbery.  If no power.. buy a hibachi grill..can get them even at drug stores and some are disposable.. so you can toss when you are done. If you do have power.. you can rent these hot dog machines that you see at carnivals where the dogs are set into the machine and they roll up and down and get cooked. A Foreman grill is another option but not sure how many people you are having.. they only do a few at a time. Or grill your dogs first.. they won't get so soggy.  If not.. how about sausage and peppers sandwiches.  again, GRILL the sausages and wrap in foil..  Or you could slice them up and serve in a tray.. Either way, I would not put them in rolls until you are ready to serve. Good luck.

  3. You could boil the hot dogs and wrap them in aluminum, keeping the buns separate until it's time to eat.

  4. why not take a george foreman grill?anymore places like walmart sell hot dog cookers..you can get one there.Im afraid of it being soggy the other way.

  5. they will be nasty when your guests arrive.  why can't you buy a little grill?

  6. hmmm.... outdoor parties, especially in the summer need a bbq or something similar. I would try a george foreman grill or something like that.

or u can just boil the hotdogs and keep them seperate from then buns till u eat them.

  7. I done the ice chest with my hot dogs.Put only the weiners in the chest.Have everything else seperate.Just have condiments and the rolls out for everyone to serve them selves.Just put a large bag with a little of the hot water with them to stay warm.

  8. Hi,

well it depends were your going, why not go to a park or South Bank where BBQ's are available for free.

or what i have done before is get like the Frankfirt sausiges like the little ones and cook them in boiling water and the put them out where averyone can grab one (still in a bowl of Boiling water, so have tongs) then have bread and sauces ready!

    Have Fun

    :]

  9. Hi.

    A couple of suggestions....

    (1)  Do NOT do your idea of boiling the hot dogs and putting them in buns, etc.  Yes, they will be soggy, and many people do not like boiled hot dogs.

    (2)  Do you live by a Walmart, Target, or any other discount retailer?  You can buy these small charcoal grills extremely cheap.....like under $10.  They look like this:

    http://www.aquasuperstore.com/detail.asp...

    (3)  If you don't want to do that.....why not order a "party" sub sandwich from your local sub shop (like Subway, Blimpies, Quiznos), etc.  Bring that along with some cold salads, chips....and you are done!  You can pre-order the party sub.  Bring it home and cut it down accordingly and wrap them into "mini" subs.  They will stay fresh in a cooler, then.

  10. You need a insulating bag. Like the pizza delivery man has. Or the Pyrex company has a dish & bag at the local Walmart or the local drug store that has a good household aisle. Yes I think that your idea will work.

  11. I agree with Sandy. You should cook the hot dogs and keep them separate because if you don't they will definitely become soggy. I tried this before and they were so soggy we couldn't eat them.
