Hot Summer is head to Keeneland for her next start in the Raven Run Stakes
Harold L. Queen’s 3-year-old filly Hot Summer, is relishing her second year of racing. Going places, winning stakes races all in all putting up good performance and cutting a smile across her conditioner David Fawkes’s face.
The daughter of Malibu Moon, out of Summer Delight by Quiet American, Hot Summer would love keep the good times rolling, as she is pointed toward the Grade 2, $250,000 Raven Run Stakes at Keeneland which has already drawn a tough line up.
The race will commence on 22 October, 2011 and her connections would be vary of the Raven Run caste, and it got David Fawkes saying that it’s going to be so tough out there, with Turbulent Descent and some of the others in there, he just thought it was more
prudent way to go.
The 3-year-old Virginia bred filly has never raced over synthetic surface in her 2-year-old racing career, but her trainer is backing her up to do well over Keeneland’s Poly Track.
David Fawkes believes her pedigree shows promise over the synthetic surface and a lot of Malibu Moons tend to run big over the synthetic surface.
It is expected that the Raven Run Stakes will reel in a field of 10 to 12 for the 13th running of the race when entries were drawn.
Hot Summer has consistently run on dirt, and had her moments in the spotlight. Recently, Hot Summer bagged the Grade 3 Victory Ride Stakes at about six furlongs under jockey C Velasquez.
On 27 August, 2011, at Saratoga, Hot Summer got back to winning way after being cut down in distance she flourished and landed the Travers under card at Saratoga for trainer David Fawkes.
Prior to the Saratoga race, Hot Summer finished 3rd in the Grade 2 Black-Eyed Susan at Pimlico over at 1 1/8 miles. Royal Delta won the race with the winning time of 1 minute and 49.60 seconds, as Buster’s Ready filled up the runner up spot.
Her second win of the season came early in the season, when she ran in the Grade 3 Comely Stakes at Aqueduct over at a mile, and in the process defeated Her Smile and Ava K.
