I downloaded CS3 to try but it does not work with the .nef for my Nikon D40x. I have tried to uninstall it but it will not. It will begin the CS3 uninstall but only gets about 1/10th the way, and sits there. Even over night. What's up? Thanks for the help.

  1. Sometimes the software uninstall routine can become corrupt, or a part of the application is corrupt, or even a shared resource may interfere in an uninstall routine. There is a free utility which can help you remove stuck applications. It is called Revo Uninstaller. It does other things too, but the removal of balky Windows based applications is what it was programmed to do. Here is a link to the home page so you can check it out and download if you think it may help you:

Otherwise you would need to do one of three things. First, you could go to the manufacturers website and look for a removal tool. Many software vendors have such tools for their applications, especially large and well known apps. Second, you could look for manual removal instructions at the vendors support website, and third, you could use a System Restore point to take your system back to the day prior to the installation of the application. System Restore would wipe the installation off as though it had never been installed.

To access System Restore, open up the Run dialog box, or in Task Manager click File and then select New Task (Run). In either of these dialog boxes type in rstrui.exe and click OK. System Restore will open. Simply follow the instructions and select the restore point for the day prior to the installation, or if their were  a restore point created for the installation select it. Often large application installation routines will create a restore point in case anything goes wrong.

So, you have several options for removing faulty applications which have become stuck or only partially removed. Good luck and have a nice day.
