Hot or cold for back ache from running xc?

i got lower back pain after running in xc practice today. should i use hot or cold to help it?

  1. ice it in the 1st 24 hours then heat it

    icing slows down the funtions of the body, helping you not hurt it any more

    and then heat promotes healin


  2. To be honest I don't know. I will tell you though to just listen to you body. If you feel like taking a hot one then do it and vise versa.

    to help you back heal correctly you must ice your back for 20 minutes and then take it off. put the ice back on for 15 min and then off. the ice will help reduce the muscle strain. you must have strained your back from running. heat will make your back swell up because it causes blood to circulate through the area more. i would recommend to go to a drug store and buy a homeopathic ointment called Traumeel or Arinca Montana gel. this stuff works and helps the healing go buy much faster..

  4. i had back pain from running cross country and i used a hot pack and it help tremendously.  

  5. Hot. Hot for sores and aches, cold for swelling.
