Hot or cold water input?

If you have a washing machine with hot & cold water imputs , but you only have cold water supply . Do you just connect the one input of cold water to the cold water supply , or do have to connect both inputs to the cold water supply ?

You can connect only the cold to the cold if you never use a hot or warm setting (you would never get hot water anyway but the machine will try to use water from the unconnected line if you use these settings).  You could always get an electric insta-hot water heater, split the incoming line and run one through the heater to the hot and one directly to the cold and have both with out having to do a lot of plumbing, but you would have to have enough power nearby.
