Hot peppers being a perennial, how long can it live?

Can I continue to harvest peppers year in and year out? The New Mex Big Jim peppers are the ones in question, if these in fact grow differently .

  1. In India, Kerala we grow pepper. The longivity is 25, 30 years. Only determining factor is the standard's(the tree on which the pepper vines grow) life or die-back disease for the vines. But people replant pepper vines when a new variety is released by the research stations.


  2. Peppers are annuals except in tropical regions and will die after a frost.  But if you want to overwinter them they do well in containers.  They will still need warmth and light to remain alive and moist, warm soil.

    Fruit the next year may not be as robust as they were the first year.

    I have the New Mex Big Jim myself, in a container, and plan on taking it inside this winter.
