  1. Hot rollers work.  The bigger the roller, the bigger the curl.  You need to use one small enough for your hair to go all the around the curler atleast once.  Most hot rollers come with a few different sizes.  Bigger rollers will be a loose curl or wave, small rollers give a more curler look.  Spray a little hair spray on each section first, leave them in long enough to cool, remove & shake your head to loosen the curls.  You may want to spray again with hairspray to set them.  Practice & you'll get better.

  2. Yes, hot rollers do work well....if you get the right ones.  DO NOT buy the hot rollers that have the little pin things that you have to use to hold the hair on the roller...they are QUITE ANNOYING and do not work at all.....I prefer the rubberized ones that kinda look like little mushrooms....that kind of fold "into themselves"....

I have long thick hair as well and like to wear my straight hair curly sometimes...so I reach for my hot curlers.  Plug them in and let them warm up for at least 15 minutes or so....My hair is thick and long so firstly, I spritz it lightly all over...then divide it into small sections....with each section, I lightly spritz it and comb it out...then wrap it around the curler...starting with the very end of my hair and "wrap up" to my head....do all of the sections and then...WAIT.  I think the "trick" to getting curls to last ALL DAY is the amount of time that you let them HEAT UP and then the amount of time that you leave the curlers in.....So anyway...I leave them in and go on about my business...and do my makeup or whatever...then about 15 minutes later I start to take the curlers out....starting with the ones that I put in my hair FIRST and so on.....when they are all out....they are in BIG thick curls.....I easily seperate the curls by hand or turn my head upside down and give my hair a quick shake....and then style as you like......

I don't sleep in the curlers....I have found it is VERRRRY uncomfortable and my (above routine) works just as good (and I can get a good nights sleep)  LOL.....The curls stay in all day....I just did my hair like this in HOT Florida for my beach wedding and my hair stayed in place the whole day AND night......Good luck to you....

P.S. The best curlers I found are called "All That" made by Remington....and they sell them at Walmart for around $30.  Love them!!!   Found them....here they are!!!

  3. you can get a product called hot sticks. you let them heat for a bit and then put them in. they work well. just leave them in about 10 minutes and it should last all day.
