Question:

Hot tub fuze keeps blowing, WHY???

I have had to replace three fuzzes in my hot tub. The last one I put in blew out not even a minute after I turned my hot tub jets on.

Any ideas on what I could check?

I have a Leisure Bay hot tub. Xtreme Genius.

  1. If your tub ran fine for a period of time (weeks or longer) and now has a problem, something has changed. Mine did the same thing after 7 years. When I opened the control box (make sure the power is off) I discovered that I must have had a power surge as my wires were fried. I had to replace the wiring and now the tub is fine again. You may also have a problem with the heater. If it is burning out or is shorted it can try to draw too much power. If you are not real savvy in electrical stuff call in the service company for the hot tub or an electrician. I had a friend who ignored his problems and not only did his hot tub go up in flames, but the whole house went along with it.

  2. They are fuses, not fuzes or fuzzes.  Your service panel is not large enough to handle the load.  Or your fuses are not large enough to handle the amperage it takes to run a hot tub.  Most service panels run on 15 amp circuits, which are enough to power most lights, electrical outlets, etc.  If they are not, they go to a 20 or 30 amp size, for larger draw such as 230v.

Since you have fuses and not breaker switches, you are creating a problem in your lines should you go to higher amped fuses--your lines may not be able to handle the load and you risk fire.

Most would say to replace your fuse box with a $100, 200 amp service panel with breaker switches, and then for the hot tub, which has a  lot of amp draw for the heaters and pumps, you would use a 30amp breaker switch.  However, you still have problems with your wiring.  I don't know how old it is, but the older the less capability to handle larger loads for today's appliances.  In any, case, replacing the service box and/or the wiring in your home will require a certified electrician.  Why risk yourself, your family and belongings and home with an overloaded circuit?

  3. Filter clogged - causing extra load on pump

    Pump motor getting old

Stuff tangled in the pump impellers

  4. ok the most common problem that makes this occur is the heater is bad and is drawing too much amps.  Most of the time the heater is highly corroded at this point and will have to be replaced.  As the other person had mentioned another source of this problem can very easily be a blower if your tub has one.  Not all Leisure bay's have them.  The way to troubleshoot is to turn the power off to the tub and then disconnect each thing(Blower, ozonator, pumps)  hooked up to it, one at a time, turning the power on each time.  IF the fuse doesn't blow then you have found out which item it is that is in need of being fixed.
