Question:

Hot tub gfci keeps tripping???

I just got a hot tub and was getting it all ready to go when I accidently splashed some water into the control box. Now I have power to everything, but the circulation jets wont run. I trip the gfci and it just clicks back(click sounds like it is coming from the timer area). Any suggestions or processes to determine problem would be greatly appreciated. Thank you in advance.

  1. on mine i used a gfic breaker......i've never used  220 gfic at an outlet!.....u gotta dry out the control box and then u might need to replace the cord or gfic if u got shocked!...i think u might need a electrician cause if u get in the water and that gfic is not working right well u know what can happen....

  2. Dry it out.........sounds like the water in the controls is the problem.........sometimes getting your fittings to tight will create pressure on your impeller and cause to much drag or friction. I believe you will need a 50 amp breaker.......but I could be wrong on that so call a spa shop...and ask the make and model and what you need.  Good luck

  3. How long has it been since water was splashed into control box?  If not long that is the problem.  Let it dry or put a fan on it.

    Was everything pre-assembled?

My hot tub has a gfci and a reset button.

When I replace the water in my hot tub the heat sensor is a little of and will trip the reset a couple of times before getting up to temp.

I had a pressure sensor go out that kept tripping the gfci.

Also, my timer went out before I traced it down each time the timer would try to click the pumps on or off it would trip the gfci.

  4. It's working just as it should. When the controls dry out it should be OK. You have a ground in the controls from the water.  Turn the power off, open the cover and dry it out.

  5. Get a blow dryer and try to dry her off.The components,I mean. It'll work when dry.At least you know the gfci works now.

Careful when using the blow dryer around the hot tub !!!
