Question:

Hot water in shower not working but working in sink?

So, I have a total of 4bathrooms and one upstairs just stopped making hot water. I am clueless as to why this happened. The other bathroom across the hall is working fine both hot and cold water. The sink in the bathroom is also working and making both hot and cold water but I can not seem to get the shower to. Needless to say, I want it fixed and I really don't want to call a plumber in b/c they coast so dang much!

My hunny is currently deployed so I am taking over all house duties and need some help on this. I have looked it up on the internet and still can not find a reason as to why. Any help would be great!

Thanks!

  1. if you have little water heaters at each location, that one might have gone bad and will need to be checked.

If you have the traditional one big water heater, I have no idea what would be causing this

  2. Angela,

does it work off of one handle.  Its like the mixer isn't working.  You have to find out what kind of water dispenser it is then look it up and find out if you can fix it.  I live in Southern Maryland and do handyman stuff, could help you if you lived near here, for free.

    God Bless your Marine also.

  3. I see by your profile your in texas if I was there I would help you, you probably need a new faucet on your shower, if we cant do it for you then this information will help keep the cost down on a plumber

  4. It sounds like you have a single valve control for the shower. As you turn the k**b, the valve mixes hot and cold water from the supply lines. It sounds like the hot water supply into the valve is either turned off, or more likely calcium and lime have clogged it. I would check to make sure the hot water is turned on to that fixture. Then I would shut the water off, remove the shower valve, and clean it with CLR to dissolve any calcium deposits. If that doesn't work, replace the valve.

  5. unless a cut off valve is off under the sink that feeds your hot water   , sounds like an isolated case of a bad faucet gone bad for your sink.....needless to say , i recommend a proffessional plumber -
