Shahid Afridi, http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Pakistan-c755’s premier all-rounder, feels that the upcoming tour of Sri Lanka is going to be a massive challenge for the Green Shirts and the fitness of the players will be tested in the hot weather of the Island.
The tour is going to commence on Friday at Hambantota with the first T20 of the two-match series, which will be followed by five One Day Internationals and three Test matches.
Pakistan has not played any cricket since the Asia Cup 2012 in March and the start of the new season for the Green Shirts is going to be in extremely trying conditions in Sri Lanka.
While talking to reporters in a press conference in Lahore, former Pakistani captain revealed that he has worked on his fitness since the last couple of months and is all set to take on Sri Lanka. Boom Boom knows that the Pakistani players are a bit rusty
but feels that the practice matches organised by Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) in Lahore were extremely helpful for the players to get back into the groove.
"As far as my fitness is concerned am feeling very fit - Alhamdolillah - I had ample time in the meantime to work on my fitness. These practice matches were very important for the team as we haven't had too much cricket for a while," Afridi said.
Pakistan team has been doing exceedingly well in international cricket since the last 18 months and Afridi has played a massive role in Pakistan’s success in limited-overs cricket. The all-rounder, who made a name for himself early in the career because
of his ability to hit the ball hard, has become one of the finest bowlers in world cricket in last five years.
The former Pakistan captain is of the opinion that Sri Lanka is never easy to beat at its own backyard but is confident of a positive result for his team because of the momentum they have gained in the recent past.
He added, “It will be very hot in Sri Lanka and also very humid so this is why this camp is important. Based on the way our team has gelled and in the way our coach and players have worked together, I have no doubt that we will get good results in Sri Lanka.”
