Question:

Hotel Advice for FAMILY in Atlanta Labor Day Weekend?

My husband is going to Dragon Con in Atlanta Labor Day weekend, and my 8 year old daughter and I are going as well, but not to the convention. We reserved the Wyndham Garden Hotel Downtown as it was one of the convention hotels, but I've done some research and am not sure if that's a safe location for my daughter and I to basically come and go alone by ourselves. We'll only have one car, so I thought staying at one of the "official" hotels was the way to go (DD and I plan to go to American Girl Place, etc, so he can take the shuttle to the convention, and DD and I will have my SUV). Should I change hotels to someplace more family friendly, and if so, should I drop him off downtown each day, or stay somewhere on the Marta route and let him take it into town? Help! I want somewhere nice and safe for us, but I want the transportation issues to work out as well. Any suggestions would be wonderful!

  1. you're better off staying in Buckhead. Its more upscale and safer for you and your daughter to travel alone.

  2. Try the Hilton around Peachtree Dunwoody Road. Ask about children prices.

  3. Um. You should be fine downtown. Atlanta has passed a series of Anti- Panhandling Laws. and Atlanta Police Department has stepped up their presence downtown, especially around tourist areas. And to the Previous answer about reserving a hotel in  BuckHead, Buckhead is espensive and your husband will be looking at a rather long shuttle commute. But APD is on point downtown, you and your daughter should be fine!
