  1. A good place to look is Cheaper than hotels - Rome which has places right at the Colloseum and nearby. Just sort the options by price to find the best deal and then check the location.

Sometimes you will find better deals by digging behind the initial prices to see amenities and free inclusions.

The Saturnia looks like a good deal ... i saw prices on a share basis with breakfast from $48 and a room rate of around $55 .... but i think those deals book fast, and maybe you want a higher star rating. Just take a look and see what you come up with ... Good Luck.

  2. I was in Rome three years ago and stayed at the Hotel Lancelot.  Here is their phone number (+39) 06 7045 0615 and web address http://www.lancelothotel.com/index.htm.

It is very close to the Colosseum.  I'm not sure what your "not too expensive" limits are but my travel companion and I found it reasonable for what we got; a very nice double room with our own bath plus the location being so central AND safe (very important for women traveling alone).  The staff was friendly and helpful; we left for a few days to go to Sorento and they stored a lot of our extra luggage for us.  They have decent breakfast and you can opt to have dinner there as well (extra charge).  There is also a bar and a very quaint and quiet place to sit in a walled in garden.

Hopefully one day my husband and I will go to Rome together; we'll definitely stay at the Hotel Lancelot!

  3. Try expedia.com or travelocity.com.  They are both great sites.  Also, if you don't mind playing it by ear, book a hotel at the train station.  You will get incredible last minute rates, and the rooms are guaranteed.  You pay a deposit upfront, and if you get to the hotel and don't like it, you can use your deposit for a different hotel back at the office.  (NOTE-This is only a good option if there are 1-2 travellers.)

A personal favorite is the Hotel Capo d'Africa.  It is very nice, and is truly walking distance from the Coliseum.  Like, one block.  It's not cheap, though.

  4. Hello, here is the list with all available hotels near Colosseum ordered by price ( http://booking.com/searchresults.html?ai... ).

Take a look also at the ratings and the reviews of the guests. Generally Rome has rather expensive hotels. Booking.com is one of my favorites web travel sites for reservations. It's very easy to confirm your booking and I recommend it based in my experience.

Rome is a very beautiful city, it's like to walk in an open museum. Just enjoy it!

  5. Ciao!
