I have to stay in DElhi for 3 dyas with my gf. I could find hotels max in the area paharganj and KArol bagh. My budget is Rs. 1k. But I came to know it is close to the red light area and is raided by police frequently. Is it so? Then, is it not safe to stay there? Where else should I stay then within this budget?

Also, I heard net booking of hotels is not good as u dont get good rooms. Then Shud I prefer coming down here and then looking for hotels? Also which area?? If anyone has been here, pls suggest some hotels

There are plenty available but I want a genuine one

  2. Hey, don't you see Sansani? The TV program related to crime. Yesterday only they should something related to "Jismfaroshi" and the people involved in it were young kids like you. Paharganj is definitely not safe. First they will rob you of all you money and belongings. Since you are staying with G/F, they will call the media first. They will shoot you on their camera and show blurred pictures of yours in the TV which anybody can make out if they know you. They will reveal your names in the media. Then they will also take money from you. After that the police will come and they will only leave you after they get their share of money.

Do you think all these can be sufficed by just 1K.

  3. Buddy Not all the hotels in Paharganj are that bad. You can go there and look for a decent hotel. Don't book for a hotel over the net as it is not required. It is not some hill station. You will get plenty of rooms there. Don't worry about police raid and all. Go to a decent hotel. Don't go to any lodge. It is lodeges which are actually raided by Police. And please don't do any thing personal with lights on. It is not safe in any hotel of Paharganj.

  4. I have never heard such foolish advise in all my life.  My girlfriend and I have been going to India for the past 10 years (3 months each year) and we stay in Paharganj and have never ever had a problem.

We have been staying at the Moon Palace Deluxe off of the Tuti Chowk and not on the main bazaar road for the past 6 years or so and only pay 250 Rp for a double with hot water and a TV.  We bring our own lock..and what police raids?..Perhaps at the dumpy 50rp per night dives. I have never meet a tourist that mentioned a police raid at their hotel in Paharganj. Hundreds of westerners stay there and get along fine.  It might look spooky if you arrive at night but it is by far very safe and the most reasonable place to stay in Delhi. This year we were in and out of Delhi many times and spent 3 weeks at the Moon Palace.

It is by far the best place for a westerner or an Indian to stay...great food, great shopping, good doctors, etc. etc.......

Just go to Paharganj and look around their are hundreds of guest houses and hotels from 50 to 1000rp and up per night!
