Hotel in Rome near Colosseum?

Question

I will be traveling to Italy during the summer and am looking to stay at a hotel in Rome near Colosseum. Please help. It’s gonna be my first time in Rome. I wish I could book on line.

I went to Rome twice and both the times I chose a hotel downtown: I tried both Forum hotel and Richmond hotel. But the choise is wide for hotel Rome near Colosseum. There are lots of hotels in the colosseum area.  This is an expensive area to stay in but it is close to most of the main sites Rome has to offer.  There is also a metro stop at the colosseum which makes it more convenient for going to sites like the vatican or the piazza del popolo.  I always use venere.com when finding rooms for my friends in Rome.  If you are looking for something less expensive, try the termini area of Rome.  This is where the main train station is.  It is just up the street from the colosseum but the prices here are a lot less because you will add between 5 and 15 minutes to your travels to get to the main sites.  Not that much time if you are saving 50-100 euros a night for a hotel.  Make sure when you use the venere site that you check out the location of the hotel on the map they provide.  This will help you in determining how close (or far away) the main sites you want to see are.

I stay at the Hotel Richmond. It's nice, close, cheap(er) and has a restuarant right outside that is wonderful!

I suggest you some hotels near Colosseum:  Hotel Gladiatori (only 20 meter, best view on Colosseum, rate from 140 to 250), Forus Inn (in via Cavour, rate from 100 to 190), Hotel Forum (Imperial Forum, rate from 130 to 300 best view on Imperial Forum), Grand Hotel Palatino (via cavour rate from 90 to 220).

I use the venere.com site for booking hotels here in Italy. There are over 500 hotels for Rome in their database. You can use a map to sort for a particular district in the city you're interested in and then sort by price, guest rating,... http://en.venere.com/hotels_rome/#o=defa... The site has a lot of reviews by previous guests to get an idea of what to expect from the area, the hotel, and the staff.

Any of the central districts in Rome are convenient for sightseeing. The area around the Roma Termini train station is cheaper, but a little further from the sites. It is still walkable though, and there are good public transportation connections.

The Trevi, Colosseo Foro Romano, Pantheon, Navonna, and Piazza di Spagna districts, as shown on the venere map, are all within easy walking distance of all the major sights.

If you're looking for cheap and close to the attractions in Rome, a good option may be the Hotel Romano http://en.venere.com/hotels_rome/kolosse... It's very close to the Forum & Colosseum and within walking distance of two metro stops and the Termini train station.

Another good option that's more expensive is the Capo d'Africa. It's an excellent hotel in an area with some interesting restaurants very close to the Colosseum. http://en.venere.com/hotels_rome/kolosse...

You can book either of these places or most others you can find on the Venere site online. I've used this site many times and never had any problems.

I will be in Rome for the first time on Friday.  We are staying at Hotel Sunset.  There is a view of the Colosseum from the hotel room window.  It is 145 euro/night for a double room.  This may sound expensive but many of the hotels in rome are run down some may not even have a bathroom, you have to share with a few other rooms.  So it may be neccessary to pay a little more to get an acceptable room.  But I used venere.com to book all of my hotels for this trip.  It's a great site.  Keep in mind that summer is the high season for travelling to Italy.
