  1. No matter your choice I would definitely book ahead online for your arrival, it just makes things so much easier.  I like cheaptickets.com

  2. I can recommend the Suite Condotti hotel on Via Condotti at the bottom of the spansh steps, only 6 rooms , large by roman standards luxurious spa baths very useful after a days sightseeing. It was average priced by Rome standards 150euro a night, very romantic though, they bring you breakfast in bed everyday as there is no restaurant.

  3. I always stay in Hotel Sistina, which is on Via Sistina, more or less at the top of the Spansh Steps and about a 5 minute walk from the Trevi Fountain, its a beautiful Hotel with a lovely roof terrace, and the staff are so helpful. Hope this helps

  4. Try http://tripter.co.uk/hotels/Italy/Rome/r... once you enter your dates you can select hotels based on popularity, proximity to a place, monument, train station etc or based on price. You can also see pictures so that way you can avoid catastrophes. Remember to enter your dates as they are modifying their website. after teh dates you also have access to a map that shows you where the hotel is located and also other hotels (and their prices) in the vicinity. By the way they have over 350 hotels in Rome so you'll have plenty of places to choose from.

  5. Porta Maggiore Hotel, Rome

We stayed in this hotel. It was great, cheap and central! Just do a google search and you'll find it :-)

  6. I stayed at the International Wine Academy of Rome. It is very romantic (there are only 4 rooms available) and quite central.

While you are staying there, you can go on wine lovers courses (which are great!)

The restaurant is also very very good - albeit expensive!

  7. The Grand Olympic. Its about 300 yards from the Vatican, less than a mile to the coluseum and cost about £85 per night

  8. I have found Rick Steve's book very helpful. Prices and descriptions were accurate. You can pick where you want in advance based on your needs.

  9. you'll like this bed and breakfast i stayed at 2 yrs ago when i went to rome-it is a great location, close to the train station: 5 mins by walking- and it is safe, clean...it ran me 27 euros about 30 dollars

a person-and it is complete with a simple breakfast-tea/biscuits/bread-not a contintental 5 course gourmet breakfast but you can always stroll out into the avenues and pick up the local crossiants, rolls, etc

the nice thing about this place also is that you can walk out of there and if you don't mind walking, you'll run into the coleseum, other historical landmarks, parks, it's just breathtaking!
