We'll be traveling for 2 weeks through Italy and are curious if checking into Hotels is any kind of hassle? Do they have English Speaking employees available? Our Italian is not so good :)

  1. Yes,  in some hotels there are English speaking  employees.  Not all hotels have English speaking employees so I would advise you to do your homework to find a hotel that has someone who speaks English if you feel uncomfortable speaking Italian.

I would pick up  a phrase book  a good one is Italian at a Glance by Barron. There is a section in this phrase book on check in to hotels  so you can at least know what to say if you do get to a hotel where there are no English speakers.

  2. i have a question for u... Do ALL hotels in the US have italian speaking employees.. Its funny how in the US everyone has the saying this is america speak english, but yet when americans are traveling they expect to find people to speak english instead of learning the basics of the language of the country they are traveling too..

Thankfully, Italians are well mannered and well educated. The people that work in Hotels and toursisty spots DO speak english.

  3. I'm italian, don't worry... most of hotels here have many english speaking employees....have fun!

  4. I just got back from italy yesterday..... a truely wonderful experience. we went to six cities and every hotel we went to had english speaking people. Some of th restraunt staff wasn't so great, but all of the reception desk people were great and could speak to any other staff. Our italian was pretty pathetic but we picked up some on the trip!

    Have a TON of fun!
