I'm going to Paris in August for the first time and would like a reasonably nice (3 star) hotel in the Latin Quarter. Interested in being near tons of good cafes and walking distance to Notre Dame and the Seine, and possibly the Louvre. Which would be the best located hotel? All have AC.

1) Jardin de l'Odeon (7 rue Casimir Delavigne; metro: Odeon) - 102.5 Euros per night

2) Abbatial Saint Germain (46, blvd Saint Germain; metro: Maubert Mutualite)- 99 Euros per night

3) Hotel du Pantheon (19, place du pantheon; metro: Luxembourg RER) - 95 Euros per night

4) Hotel Saint Germain des Pres (36 Rue Bonaparte; metro: Saint Germain des Pres) - 112.5 Euros per night including breakfast

Greatly appreciate it!

  1. No.3 and BON VOYAGE !

  2. Hotel du Pantheon. Second choice would be Abbatial St. Germain.

I feel obligated to point out that the star system is relatively meaningless. It is NOT a guage of overall quality but simply a matter of an entirely mechanistic check list of infrastructure.

There is no significant difference amongst these hotels as to location. They are all within easy walking distance of each other and also within a few minutes walk of the Seine.

This area is crammed with cafes, bars, and restaurants. It would be impossible to avoid them. Nightspots in Paris typically stay open until sunrise.

My favorite hangout is Aux Trois Mailletz at 56 rue Galande. That's a short walk from any of these hotels. Good food, good crowd, good music. A piano on the ground floor and a very hip 1950's nighclub in the basement. Another favorite place in this neighborhodd is Le Petit Journal, a classic jazz club. http://perso.orange.fr/claude.philips/

You night also like Polly Magoo, very popular with ex-pats, at 35 rue St. Jacques. Its glory days (up the street) are gone but its still a good place for singles. This is the place (along with La Mazet on rue St. Andre des Artes) where you could find Jim Morrison drinking himself to death back in the day.

  3. #4 sounds terrific!!! Au revoir and have a great time.
