Question:

Hotels in Munich early September (08)?

I am planning a trip in early September for Germany, and was thinking mostly about being in Bavaria, and Munich to be specifc. I noticed that some hotels are already sold out for Sept 1 & 2 in Munich. Is there a festival or something going on at that time? I already have plane tickets, so I will probably be looking to change my travel for those couple of days to be somewhere else other than Munich.

  1. How about a day in Fuessen and next day with bus to visit

Germany highest mountan in Garmisch .back to munich on 3 Sept ?

  2. You can search and choose hotel information, rates and availability for free in over 200 countries world wide at my profile.

  3. When to go

Munich's tourist rush is on for one and all between May and September, when the weather is at its finest. The shoulder seasons - April-May, September-October - are great times to visit, with fewer visitors (with the glaring exception of the Oktoberfest crowd) and plenty of sunshine, although visiting between November and March will pretty much give you the place to yourself, along with the below-freezing temperatures and sunless skies.

Still, Munich is chock-full of great events and festivals all year round, so if it's not so much fun outside, there's bound to be some visit-worthy event happening inside

Their is also an Oktoberfest : which happens around the end of September :::: !!!           You could also get on this site and request a tourist travel guide which will list all kind of event's and when they take place !!! .........

so I would guess this is the reason the hotels/motels are booked !!!

Hope this helps you out some  .

  4. Hi,

My best guess is that you're suffering from Oktoberfest. I've lived here in Munich for the past 7 years, and can tell you that it is nearly impossible to get a hotel in the city at that time. It usually starts in the middle of September, but many people get here early. The typical Oktoberfest draws around 6 million visitors to the area every year. It is really interesting, though. It's not JUST bier drinking as everyone thinks (although I'll have to admit, that's a significant part of it). There are beautiful parades, the grounds of the Oktoberfest include activities like amusement park rides, arcades, good restaurants, etc. It's an experience.

This is a Munich thing, although nearly every village/city has some festival(s) during the summer/fall, only smaller. You shouldn't have too much trouble if you get 30+ km out of the city area.

Additionally, the predictable good weather season here can be somewhat limited. Although fall and winter CAN be really nice, sometimes it's cold, cloudy, and rainy. So the summer and early fall months are when most of the visitors come here.

So I guess it's either of these or a combination of both.

    Good luck,

    Mike
