I'm thinking about staying in New York, and for the amount of money I'll be spending I need to think carefully about rooms. I'm looking for at least 3 stars and something that hopefully won't put me far away from everything. (If that's possible in New York City? lol) I'm hoping for first hand accounts, but any info is helpful, thanks. :)

  1. I have just come home from New York( brilliant holiday) We stayed in the Wellington, which is on 55st 7th ave, just a short walk from Times Square and Central park. The rooms are very basic, but if you ask to be put in the refurbished part they are better, we were put there after complainingg about our room, in fact there was no hassles getting changed because the staff are great. as I have already said the location makes up for everything else, and you will not spend a lot of time in your hotel anyway, also the restaurant attached to the hotel is great and there is some good Delis and restaurants in the area. Rosie o'gradys (3min walk towards Times Square) is excellent. We had a set 3 course dinner for $30 which included steak as one of the choices, and it was a lovely restaurant with very attentive staff. and we bought grayline tickets for the hop on hop of open top deck buses and there was a bus stop right opposite the hotel, this was a great thing to do because we seen everything we wanted to see at ease. tickets were bought in the hotel gift shop and the shop assistant advised us about everything. Hope you get something to your liking and enjoy your holiday. I wish I was going back right now!

  2. stay in the double tree in times square, its right in the middle of everything, there is a really good restaurant in the building its a 5 second walk to the subway and if you go during the new years celebration they give a special pass that lets you go to the best spots to see the ball.

  3. I use this site a lot when i travel, it offers prices, reviews, the location of the hotel . . . my reviws are already in there, so i'm not going to restate them here. Other than that, you can search for what suits your needs as far as where you wantt to be.

  4. I stayed at the Millenium at United Nations Plaza for 10 days last month.

It's on East 44th, so is pretty central.

All the major sights and attractions I visited were in walking distance, except Staue of Liberty and Bronx Zoo.

Room was on the 39th floor, and the views over Manhatten at night were absolutely stunning.

All staff were pleasant and helpful.

    Room was huge.

Costwise, it was $3100, which is about £1700 in real money.

    Worth every penny.

  5. 3 stars in NYC will be minimum 200 a night. Probably more during midweek.  Often times the rates very throughout the week, and depending on how full the city is. I have seen 3 star hotels go for over 500$ a night in NYC.

  6. the comfort inn central park is cheap and cheerful. the rooms are a bit pokey, but its clean and near columbus avenue (on 71st street), so there are places to eat. It is also near the underground.

  7. My friend, the link below will very helpful.
