Hotels in cities before and after Mazatlan?

Question

We are planning a road trip from Puerto Vallarta to Los Cabos.

We would like to see Sayulita, San Blas, and Mexcaltitan before Mazatlan- are there hotels in or around these towns you can recommend?

We are also interested in hotels north of Mazatlan, before Topolobampo, where we're taking the ferry to La Paz. Are there any nice places you can recommend we stay at?

Sayulita I cannot say. There are 4 or 5 small hotels in San Blas but it has been too many years and I don't remember their name. Mexcaltitan had, last time I was there, one just off the plaza.

When I travel north from Mazatlan, my wife and I stay exclusively at the "Comfort Motels". They are right on the highway just north or south of each town. These hotels are usually rented for only a couple hours for a romantic rendezvous for a couple hours. But we love them because they are reasonable (They charge you extra for the "Whole night", but rarely more than $25 to $30 US) and they are very safe and secure. A gate going in, a gate going out, garages so your car and stuff is safe, and a 24 hr security. Just stop and have diner BEFORE to go in because once you are in, you don't leave. The rooms have always been very nice, clean, with king size beds.

La Perla is a nice place in La Paz. Its on the main drag.

I would suggests motels en route they are sometimes gated with good security.  Its a slow drive loaded with "Topes" and school zones.

Mazatlan is a one shot drive,  Culican another . Are you going to double back the 500km from Topolobamba?
