Question:

Hotels or hostels in Paris?

My husband and I are going to Paris for 4 nights in May. We're looking for an inexpensive place to stay (less than $100/night) - doesn't have to be fancy or have many (or any) amenities. We do want it to be in a good neighborhood and close to the subway. I've looked all over the internet and have several in mind, but all the reviews I've read have been mixed. Please help me with any suggestions on places you've stayed! (And please don't refer me to TripAdvisor - believe me, I've been there!) Thanks!!

  1. I would personally stay in an apartment. they're much larger and give better value for money. I've rented apartments from this company in paris and have been very impressed http://www.holiday-velvet.com/paris

  2. Hello! I've stayed in several inexpensive hotels in Paris, and I HIGHLY recommend the Hotel Tiquetonne. For 50 Euros a night, you get a double room with a bathroom in the room. (You pay less for a shared bathroom in the hallway.)  It's not fancy--but it's clean and in a good location (the 2nd district.) It's also 2 blocks from the metro. There are plenty of restaurants near by as well.

The only drawback: the hotel closes at midnight, so if you're not back by then, you are locked out until morning.

You'll need to call to reserve, and you should do it ASAP. The hotel is often booked way in advance.

You can google it and find it on travel sites to see pictures if you want. (The hotel itself doesn't have a website.)

Here's the number when calling from the US (with the international dialing codes included)

    011 331 42 36 94 58

    Hope this helps! Bon voyage!

  3. My personal bookmarks according to your price range. These hotels are small/family hotels in the 16h district and accessible to many areas, but not in the heart of Paris with other tourists....

Area is quiet and you will have no security issue there (you don't that much in most parts of Paris anyway).

    I prefer the first one.

You will see mixed reviews everywhere, and still you will need to decide. In the end, your hotel matters less than your days as the goal is to stay away from your room and bed.... :-)

  4. The Hotel St. Andre des Arts cost 89 euros anight, breakfast and taxes included. It is a perfect location although more than the $100 a night you are looking for. http://www.123france.co.uk/en/0/hotel-sa...

It is hardly surprising that you get, at best, mixed reviews of place under $100. Paris is the number one tourist destination in the world and it's just not reasonable to expect dirt cheap accomodations, especially when the American dollar has fallen to the value of toilet paper.

However, I would mention that I often read bad reviews of hotels I knew to be perfectly good.  I suispect that this comes from tourists who really want to be in the Holiday Inn in Omaha and can't imagine why the little boutique hotel they have booked in Paris isn't exactly the same. so read reviews with a an eye to noting the jackass factor of the reviewer (especially on tripadvisor).

  5. Pl check the URL in the source.  The website contains hotels in Paris ranging from $66 onwards in Paris per night. Try this hotel Exclusive Renoir Saint Germain
