Question:

Hours that workers can make excessive noise?

I am being woken most mornings by nearby construction workers, using heavy plant and loud machinery from around 7 AM, some mornings even earlier.

What are the regulations around this? Just one hour later would make my life so much better right now!

  1. There are a couple of things in regards to construction work hours that most of us have probably noticed living here.  First, in the summer months when temperatures reach record highs, construction workers will not be permitted to work between the peak hours of approximately 12 noon and 4 pm, as this could endanger their health and safety for obvious reasons.  So, to make up for this break, they may start work earlier in the morning, or work later into the night – which, yes, will be quite disturbing for many of us - but, we should think of the alternative: having those poor workers suffer heat exhaustion and consequently fall very ill.  I wouldn't wish that on anyone, would you?

Although - The permitted hours of work when noise can be audible at a construction site boundary are:

Monday to Friday 8:00am to 6:00pm

    Saturday 8:00am to 1:00pm

Sunday and bank holidays No work allowed

Any noisy operations outside these hours cannot be undertaken without prior approval of the department and permission is only granted in exceptional circumstances e.g. Emergency works

  2. Harden up !!!!!!!! The sooner it is done the sooner you can have a sleep in

  3. It should be 8.30 am for special reasons if not you can contact the council and speak to the noise nuisance dept... they usually deal with parties at 4 am on a sat morning but all noise nuciance they have to investigate and are quite helpful.

  4. CALL YOUR LOCAL GOVERNMENT OFFICE.  MAKE A COMPLAINT.

EVERY CITY IS DIFFERENT IT ALSO DEPENDS ON WHAT TYPE OF PERMITS THE CONSTRUCTION COMPANY OBTAINED.

  5. get in touch with environmental health dept at your local council
