Do you agree with this? Should the government, or anyone else apologize for a dark time in our history that ended 140 some years ago?

  1. Yeah, isn't that just precious.

Apologizing to a bunch of people who were not enslaved, most of which aren't old enough to have experienced any Jim Crow laws.  And who are the oppressors?  They're all dead, too.

    What a waste of time.

At least while they're doing that they aren't figuring out a way to ease the energy problems which are affecting ALL people.  No wonder their approval rating is 9%.

  2. They should apologize to the whole country for the wretched job they are doing.

  3. i dont want any an "apology"-will it get me a job now? will it give me free grocery? will it give me free education? will it give me a nice house and care etc?? to the first answerer and to marie you have to understand that although black people in the 21st century has never experienced slavery our ancestors have and as a result we now in the 21st century are experiencing the CONSEQUENCES of slavery such as racism, discrimination, tokenism etc. slavery is a HORRIBLE act after all our black ancestors have done for america, so marie dont go saying black people are complaining, we are facing injustices everyday that white people dont have to worry about, we are humans as well who wants to be treated fairly too, how much longer should we put up with this, people like marie dont allow the system to change,  AT LEAST give our dead ancestors respect after all our black ancestors deserved it.

  4. I think a giving people who need this kind of an apology a heavy dose of reality that there have been many atrocities in the history of this world would help the world more than validating people who hyper-obsess and use these historic issues to become victims or to divide people further.

And it's very ironic that it came after a radical, hateful person ranted about these things.

  5. Shouldn't these answers actually be based upon something other than an opinion based upon a "personal worldview" about an issue?  You do not need to go back that far; research post WWII in the U.S. and see who FHA loans were given to buy new suburban houses and "WHY" the government built housing projects in the cities.

The U.S. is the ONLY country that has never officially apologized for slavery.

Also, the end of the Civil War was not the end of slavery.  Were African Americans free to travel as they wished, get an education, live peacefully with their families?  The Reconstruction after the Civil War in many ways was worse than the war itself, because how were slave owners expected to live near freed slaves?

The U.S. could have a little humility and acknowledge the "evil" the government participated in with slavery, because it in no ways diminshes the other good qualities which the U.S. possesses.  Also, 1964 was not that long ago.

  6. Political pandering and pure propaganda. Keeps them from having to do any real work running the country.
