House arrest?

my dad was on house arrest with only three months to go and he ran because he came home drunk one day when he got off work at noon. he cut off the bracelet and left Indiana, he is now in South Carolina. he had the choice of either jail or house arrest, he chose house arrest and had to pay like $250 a month to be on it. he was on it for his, idk, probably 10th DUI, who knows. but anyway, can i find out if there is a warrant for his arrest, this happened almost 6 years ago, and what kind of trouble would he face if he came back and turned himself in? are they even looking for him anymore do you think?

  1. 10th DWI?  Sounds like he is solidly in felony territory.  It is highly likely that he has warrants, one for fleeing custody, one for destruction of government property, and probably one for the original charge!

Since the crimes were not violent, they are probably not actively looking for him.  If he ever gets pulled over the warrants will show up ... and might cause the officers to take him into custody.  It would be up to Indiana authorities to decide to extradite him or not, could go either way .

If he came back and turned himself in, it would go easier on him than if he was arrested on the warrants, he should consider contacting a lawyer in Indiana and surrendering to authorities ... the lawyer can coordinate that.

Hopefully your Dad is thinking about getting his life in order ... it's never too late.  My own father got straight in his mid to late 40's ... and has stayed straight ever since.  Good luck to you and your Dad.

  2. You can likely find out whether there is still an outstanding warrant (and I bet there is) by calling the local police and asking, but don't be surprised if they want to ask you some more questions, such as what is his current address.. Some states have reciprocity and will extrudite fugitives for one another.

  3. Call your county district court or sheriff's department and see if there is a warrant. As far as time it is soley up to the court.
