I live in the Uk but my dad lives in France alone. This weekend he was in the Uk visiting and he went back last night. This morning i had a phone call from him saying his house had been broken into. Quite a lot of things have been taken. He called the police and they were meant to be coming to finger print the house this afternoon but they didnt turn up. What are the steps that they take for a break in? Im really worried they wont do anything about it and i fear for his safety if they come back to take more. What more can he do?

  1. Call the police again, they might have had another emergency and forgot about the breaking in. If they say they can't come now ask if he can go down to the police station to do a 'declaration' as the insurance will want police papers. And at least the break in will be registered. Insist that the police come today as he is going to have the locks changed. The police also usually have lists of companies that will change the locks in the hour, they are called serrurier (this is August and plenty of shops are closed).

Change the locks today and put an alarm, even if the police won't come.

For the insurance, take pictures of the broken locks/door/window. Call the insurance and ask what to do.

If your father has friends there, why not ask one of them to come spend the night with him.

Being burglared is a terrible experience, your shelter had been broken in and you feel vulnerable. Why not visit your father this weekend?

  2. call the police back and get the case number

  3. thats terrible. things like that scare the s**t outta me.
