House invaded by carpenter ants?

Ok, since pretty much late spring our house has been subject to carpenter ants. We tried different traps but none worked, we then tried Boaric (sp?) acid (powdery blue stuff) down and for a week or two it seemed to work, we then removed all the acid and shortly after they all came back. the main rooms they are in are the kitchen, bathroom, and unfortunately my bedroom (im only 18). i wake up several times a night to at least one ant crawling on me, this has led to the early stages of insomia, because all i can think about is when i'll be crawled on next, cuz really its gross and i dont like the thought of ants using me as a sidewalk. we recently i found two holes in the wall, one in my room, one in the bathroom, i have put more boric acid down and plugged on the holes (the one in my room) with poster putty. but i also, just today, realized my wooden dresser (with a fish tank on top, water has leaked before) so im thinking my dresser is there nest cuz i've seen sawdust n such, HELP ME

  1. Carpenter ants actually have a nest either in the attic, walls (they like to live in insulation) or outside beneath the ground. Most of them live in the nest and never leave. The few you see are the ones that are considered the "explorer" ants. You will never kill all the ants with any insecticide since you are only killing these "explorer" ants. The are not like red ants and do not carry the poison back to the nest.

You will have to find the nest and kill all the ants - it can be difficult to find the nest and i think it's easier to hire a professional to find it and kill them off.

  2. theres this kl ant repellent or something u can get

basically its a little black box with poison inside

the ants crawl in and eat some (cuz its sweet or something and attracts them) but it doesnt kill them immediately.  then they bring some back to their nest and feed their friends it, then they pass it on and the whole colony dies.  its reli gd, we used it when we had an ant problem.  sory i dunno what its called!! but gd luck

maybe sleep over at a frends for a couple of nights until u can sleep agen :)

  3. the saw dust looking material is what they kick out of their nest...more than likely there actually is no wood in it at all that was chewed,  but rather their shed skins as they pupated to the adults.  From the pile of dust go straight up and you might see where they are kicking the material out.  The problem with carpenter ant treatments is that the homeowner usually won't be able to get the insecticides into the voids where the ants are nesting.  Boric acid is too heavy a dust to be really effective in their voids and just sprinkling around will only kill what foragers get into it.  The traps you buy from the stores are useless against carp ants, they aren't attracted to the baits.  There are two professional baits that are effective against them and easy to use.   One is advance Carpenter Ant Granules for use on the outside and the other is MaxForce Carpenter Ant Gel for the inside.  The most common areas I locate carpenter ants nests inside will be crown molding and hollow core doors...the frass (saw dust looking piles) should give away where the nest is at.
